Agree post 515, it is good for them as they got on a bit of a high horse, and taking a hit like this will, if, they stay viable cause them to be more determined to investigate and report for the citizens not to their ties to the LE or the BOS.

By the way filing an FOIA is not investigative journalism which is what the situation was with the 911 tapes, very simple very easy to do, a 5 year old could do it. Let's talk about real investigative reporting. Not the lightweight stuff, such as the Rully incident, or the Garzoli situation, we could go on and on. Not only that but the withholding of citizen information which they receive to cover for the local government and the LE is hardly a good stance for a newspaper to take.

By the way breaking a story is not investigative, the Garzoli helo information was already out there, it was just a matter of putting the story together. Now breaking the Wright story, breaking the Rhonda Rully IA, breaking the current John Rully deposition, or if you will getting the search warrant infor for the LCN when they could not get it now that is investigative reporting. Really the weekly reader might be your cup of tea. Or we might add that Garzoli is gone, now remember once those are in the paper, that you saw them here first. Ok now go read your weekly reader.

Yes post 656 and everybody the judicial watch page is excellent and a very good working model to expose the corruption in our governments and LE organizations in our country and our counties. You have to understand or should we say imagine the entrenchement that exisgts in Lake County right now, the "deals" the access, the connections that are in place after 16 years of Mitchell, those people from business's to BOS memebers to other county connections and some of the citizens to not want to let go of that relationship. It is a perfect example on a small level of an elitist network, and they all eventually have to break down, and this ones time has come. Ya they are going to fight, they can't imagine a change. What do you think Liz Larsen and John are thinking right now if they perceive Rivero winning? What do you think Rob Brown is thinking of that possibility? For us we keep going no matter what happens, the site keeps going the launch of the newspaper, this is not a short term election venture, we started this model way before the thoughts were of the elections. We looked at this idea for a month or so before setting up the first initial launch. The Elections are an opportunity to bring about change, and that would further our cause, which is the total transparency and accountability from all of our government entities in this county.
 

wow i just read Sandy Bayles letter in response to el's article on the state bar closing the investigation . she is good maybe she needs to file a complaint against hoppy. we all need to file complaints against hoppy .

This is the Lovelace group, we had opportunity to see Ron Green in action on the comment section of the link we posted below. Ron Green does a great job putting all the pieces of the the Hopkins State Bar situation out in the open. You should remember the bigger issue of the investigation is Hopkins lying about it when saying after the investigation was started that he was not under investigation. The other individual posting using the name Sphere gets schooled by Ron. We will be posting some of the other conversations with Ron. He is a sharp and articulate person, who knows what he is talking about and what he says below in response to Sphere is spot on.

What Hopkins tried to do to Dinius and his open letter in the middle of jury selection was outrageous. The bar, unfortunately, "polices" its own and protects its own as much as possible. Like Lake County, the Bar needs a civilian review board. Two jurors admitted to reading the Hopkins letter (how many others read it but did not admit?) and were tossed from the jury.

I have spoken to many out of county lawyers about this open letter, and they all were shocked. I recently bounced it off a famous Court of Appeal Judge who was giving an ethics lecture, and he thought it was "awful." What Hopkins did is unheard of in legal circles, it is simply not done, most DAs know such a letter in the middle of jury selection is unethical or borders on unethical or at least gives the appearance of impropriety.

Deputy DA Langan, an honorable man who was prosecuting Dinius, came to the conclusion that the case was unwinnable, wanted to dismiss it, Hoppy would not let him, Langan refused to try it, and threatened to quit if forced to try the case. That's when Hoppy took it over, and rather than following Langen's good advice, ran with the case, and got run over. No common sense. Awful decision-making! Now, it's time to run him out of town and send him back to Santa Cruz, a town that loved him so much it gladly sent him up here! - RG

Now here is Herb responding to Ron asking him a question, and Ron pulls no punches not toward Herb as it was a good question, and by the way we like the way Herb handles the election guests on his show he is sharp enough to keep on top of them and make them answer the questions the call in's are asking. One example of that is when a member of the Lovelace group called in the direct question to Hopkins on if he was under investigation by the State Bar, he (Hopkins) tried to avoid the answer, and Herb kept him on point and he had to answer. Anyway look at what Ron answers to Herbs inquiry. Great Job, he pulls no punches.

When Jon Hopkins was on my radio show last Saturday along with the other 2 candidates, he stated that his letter was published after the jury had been selected and admonished not to read the papers. Are you saying that this is untrue and that jury selection was still in progress?

It was in the middle of jury selection, the potential jurors had been admonished, but had not been selected yet.
 

You see Hopkins keeps trying to say it was alright for him to do what he did because the jury had been admonished, that is like saying the jurors have been told not to read the news articles about a case and then a lawyer places a paper in front of them and tells them to read it. Really a weak attempt at Hopkins trying to limit the level of harm he caused.

Now in this conversation from the above link, Ron Green is talking about the jail suicide or Murder as he calls it, and his compassion for the individual is wonderful, we had placed a post indicating the same thing on the Blog, when we indicated that the important issue was not the alleged offenses of the individual but the death of a human being. Ron does a nice job making his point on this one, and by the way this incident should not drop, and we are going to begin to look at this a bit closer to see what the underlying issues are.

This is very sad. I have no idea if this was a suicide or a murder. But, I want to urge people not to judge Hatfield guilty just because he was arrested for "threatening a peace officer, resisting arrest, battery on a peace officer, and two other related misdemeanor charges." Don't forget - innocent until proven guilty.

For example, almost 30 years ago, I was walking down 24th street in San Francisco, minding my own business, when I came upon two cops assaulting a man as they appeared about to put him in the police car. I stood on the sidewalk, about 15 feet away, and yelled to the guy (silly me), "need a witness?" Next thing I knew they forgot all about the other guy, came for me, banged my head against the police car, and tossed me in it. I was charged with interfering with a police officer, resisting arrest, and assault and battery on a police officer. I represented myself (not advised) and beat it, but the moral of this little story is don't believe everything the cops say. I don't know Mr. Hatfield, and know nothing about the facts of this arrest, nor his death, but just because the cops say he resisted, theatened and battered a police officer does not make it true. Unfortunately, Mr. Hatfield will never get his day in court.


Below a person who uses the name BlackMagic comes at Ron with a really bad diatribe, and Ron just smacks him down with ease. We really appreciate the forward thinking rational presentation of Ron and he sticks up for what is right and knows how to press his point.

I don't know "Philadelphia Lawyer", but just because it happened to YOU, doesn't make Mr. Hatfield innocent.
It goes BOTH ways, and I for one will always believe the word of someone who puts their life on the line everyday, over MOST of the Scum I see in Lake County.
I don't know...I guess I'm one of those old fashioned people who actually HAVE RESPECT for someone that wears a Badge.

Somebody has to serve a foia to the state bar and get a copy of there findings . Dan Noyes could do a great story on that one . Frank needs to file a complaint against Mitchell with the fbi .

Funny how they want to disregard witness account and documents support it. They wouldn't know what investigative reporting is because they rely upon what they are told not facts.
The Vestal case is a prime example of this.
Officer Michael Hansen was one of the officers who went to the Vestal residence in Clearlake back in 08. When officers came to their home Shavon came outside along with her son, then boyfriend and lastly David. Officers claim Vestal, David Vestal had a shot gun in his hand and told the officers to leave his property. Officers claim David Vestal came out holding a gun and was told to drop it or they would shoot. Officer Hansen shot 4 bullets, one of the bullets hit Vestal in the neck killing him. His daughter and grandson along with daughters boyfriend witnessed the shooting.
The Lake County DA office investigated the officer's shooting per Jon Hopkins Lake County DA and concluded officer Hansen was justified
in killing Vestal because the officer thought his life was indanger.
Fact 1. All witnesses (4) have said they were never contacted by the District Attorney's Office or by any investigatior within the DA office. All four (4) witnesses say Vestal was not holding any gun.
On examination of the gun that officers claimed Vestal held in his hands there was no blood or DNA tissue found on it. [per forensics]. Now how can that be? It would make more sense that the gun was laid there after David Vestal was shot and killed. Why else would the gun be clean? Doesn't make sense any other way.

All of these types of investigative situations are exactly what we are talking about, a sharp media outlet would jump on this, question if the jail staff should have known, this could be a totally preventable death. To that effect Lenny had a comment on this same link indicating the tragedy of this, and made a great post on this idea. Again, news people need to be on this, and this is exactly the type of stories and investigation we will conduct with the new newspaper.
 

Well the good news 935 we generally discourage hitting people on spelling and sentence structure etc, for us the message is what is important. We think to much of that happens on the other sites and it is a waste of time, and gets people off the point. But every once in a while people just can't resist...:-)
 

I don't think any of our 2 media outlets have the back-bone to really go after it, and they have to many ties to the LE and the Local government folks. Ron that was good stuff thanks for setting people straight.

I was listening to the scanner the night of the domestic violence call and that there was a small child in the residence, the radio transmissions were clear to me through it all, the officer pulled up and got out of his car, the victim came out of the residence holding a shotgun and the officer yelled to put the rifle down, it was not until the victim pointed the gun at the officer/officers that he was fired upon, had he not decided to pick up the gun and especially with the young child there or the fights that brought the officers there, he would still be alive. People when You fight neighbors hear it and try to be helpful and call to stop it, Lord knows I have done it only to have the wife say or we were just playing, I never call if she gets the mess kicked out of her, it is her own fault.

This blog seems to entertain versions of incidents that just don't go along with the reality of the situation, as I said I was monitoring and it did not happen the way I see someone claiming on here.

Caroline, thanks for posting you are correct in your overview of what you heard, and it does match to the SO description, but we do feel it is important to let the other theory's come forth, sometimes in ends up inbetween somewhere, don't disparage the citizens to much for presenting a different view on the sequence of events. We think the back and forth evaluation of the incident is good, and we do appreciate your post, sometimes it is better if cooler heads prevail and it is just good conversation and the sharing of the information, please continue to post with us. We appreciate your input.

If it is cool you want, that is surely me,I stay up late and always have at least two scanners going one on scan one just on the Clearlake Police Dept frequency as I live in the park area and it is real busy over here,I would move but my home is paid for and well other than some lousy neighbors I happen to like this area near the lake and close to a little grocery store if I need something at the last minute.

Michell needs to be replaced and nobody seems to know that better than Rivero. Over 16 years I've watched as good fellow deputies left for Sacramento, Napa and other agencies. I also saw good supervisors such as Markham, Jones, Hoffman and others retire the first chance they had to get away from Mitchell. Why? Here is a few reasons:

Mitchell first started his career as Sheriff by telling the people that the Sheriff's Office is too top heavy (we are now hearing that from Rivero). Mitchell does away with the Captain and Lieutenants position, just to bring them back 12 years later. In the last lieutenant's promotion, only one person applied for that position. Nobody else wanted to be part of his staff.

Mitchell promoted Perdock and Garzoli all the way to management. Now both have lied and embarrassed the Sheriff's Office not only county wide, but across the nation in several Boating and pro Marijuana magazines. Their actions will most likely cost the county 100's of thousands in court and punitive damages.

Mitchell doesn't review his orders as good as he should. The county has a strict sexual harassment policy, but when Garzoli goes wild, Mitchell does nothing. When Morshed had a little fling on duty, Mitchell gives him a slap on the wrest. Then the DEA grant. If a grant involving almost a million dollars is signed by Mitchell, at least he could read it or have a captain review it first.

Mitchell loves using policy to work for him to get re-elected. Now I know we all heard it before, but here it is again. 133 days ago, a citizen files a complaint that she had been sexually assaulted by a deputy. Instead on protecting the public and starting the investigation immediately, the investigation is not started until four months later. The accused deputy is not placed on Admin Leave nor is he forced to give up his badge, ID and gun. Doing this would make you think Mitchell thought the complaint was unjust right at the start, but he said nothing even though Rivero publicly gave Mitchell permission to speak about it.

Now we have a civil suit by Dinius against LCSO and the DA's Office and alot of people are waiting to see about Bealand's case and will he speak before the election?

What else do you need to see Mitchell must leave.

Post 1006 Caroline, thanks for coming on the site, it gets a little rough here sometimes, but we try to keep in heading in the right direction. Some of us use to run scanners, we remember the old ones when you had to buy the crystals for the Freq's you wanted!!! Now with the Digital scanners it is so amazing what you can do, We want to incorporate a county wide scanner system, with citizens communicating the activities around the county, and communicating with each other and having instant access to our new paper that will be out soon for the posting of "as it happens information" we hope that those with scanners will join in the activity when it is ready to launch. We let everyone know when we are going to launch that idea. Do you run a Bearcat scanner?

Well as everyone has said the looks are not the issue here, it is the blatant actions of Mitchell and his attempt to discredit Frank Rivero, it is a sad display of a man, and Mitchell has damaged himself for good, it is hard to imagine an individual could possibly cast a vote for him, with an open mind.

Poser Carolyn Wallace, David Vestal's daughter filed a lawsuit against the City of Clearlake, Clearlake Police Chief and Officer Hansen for violation of Vestal's civil rights in San Francisco, the City of Clearlake settled 6 months later.
So Carolyn I really think you heard wrong or read the press version and not the facts.

As a small community paper on the web or paper if you are in it for a buck your not going to offend if you can help it. Just so much advertising dollars and no more Woodward and Bernstein's.Without oversight of bureaucrats they will always stomp on the citizens rights for their welfare. Those in this local government need to be told their not god and often. Mitchell and Hopkins is just the tip of this county's dishonesty.

Why do you want to know who Jose Zepeda and Corey Paulich are? Why do you want to know who he hangs with or who his wife hangs with? What are you insinuating/alleging? Why do "we" need to investigate him?

By asking if there are any excessive force complaints out there, you cause the reader to think he has a problem.

If you are going to toss garbage out there, have the guts to sign your name. If not, don't ask for any information.

We did save the best couple of quotes for the last you will see them at the bottom. Have Fun.

Here is a message sent to Rob Brown and the Supervisors:
Mr Brown this from a citizen, you sir are a disgrace, to one degree or another you must get some type of help to control your self, it was quite unsettling to all those who witnessed your small and ignorant conduct. Stay away from the debates Mr. Brown if you cannot control yourself and act in a professional manner as one who represents our county and suppose to represent the citizens.

I will be sending this to Anita Grant as well but I believe you should go to her as supervisors .

Now we have saved the best for last in a notation from Rob Brown indicating who he does not like and look what he does to these two peoples names...This is an actual e-mail From a supervisor..Hard to imagine he holds this position!! He is stating his happy opinion on the terrible LCN opinion piece and seems to be happy as hell.

I don't believe “Franco Rivera” will recover from this.

He then uses the same approach for a member of the Lovelace group: Amazing, again this is from a supervisor, hard to believe isn't it. The worst part is we bet the corruption supporters will think it is real neat. LOL

“I don't believe Bruce Foreskin”. We cannot help but laugh, and he sent this to all the other supervisors if you can believe it.

Well there you have it folks a perfect display of the likes of Rob Brown, is this like 5th grade stuff or what?
 

Kip, sometimes the Mitchell gang come on and throws out question like that out so it seems to come from Lovelace. Just more dirty tactics and nothing more. I don't know Paulich but Zepeda seem very nice. A good deputy!
 

Now I am willing to bet money that Liz if given this information about her buddy Brown would never write an article describing this fine supervisor, any takers? Ya I guess not. Wow way to go Lovelace, sure paints a nasty picture of good old Brownie. Jezzzzz hard to imagine we have this level of people running our local government, no frickin wonder this county has gotten so screwed up.

The mentioned post did not come from the Lovelace group. We don't know Paulich or Zepeda, not sure what that is all about, could be a citizen who has had a run-in with them or something.

Well, it seems that there are new papers filed at the court house concerning "our" wonderful Sheriff's Department. Apparently the filing has to do with a pitchess motion to obtain access to the majority of the deputies at the S.O. For those of you that don't know, a pitchess motion is to allow access into a deputies personnel file and see if the deputy has been disciplined and what the punishment has been.

I believe this should help Beland's case.

So you should have not mouthed off to him he was giving you a warning . You will find cops treat you the way you treat them whenever I get pulled over I always keep my hands on steering wheel and tell the officer if i am going to move them at night I turn my interior lights on .Everything is YES SIR , NO SIR and most important I always tell the truth . I spent Thursday and Friday knocking on doors (and dodging security) in Hidden Valley. I lost count on how many doors I knocked on but almost every body is voting for Rivero. I had a great conversation with several families who were not aware of Mitchell and his good old boys. I was also surprised on how many knew about the Dinius case and was very upset at Mitchell and Hopkins. At Hardesters I met three very pro Mitchell supporters. After talking about Perdock, Garzoli, McMahon, Fry and the DEA grant, all three changed to Rivero.

Everyone listen to what he said, knocking on doors talking to people that is all it takes once they get the facts, it is a no=brainer. Everyone talk to each person you see in a given day, the stores you go to, the carwash, anyone and everyone, get the vote out and talk to people...!!!!

Garzoli was nothing but a bully with a small man's syndrome. He enjoyed making fun of deputies not as experienced as he. I do not think you will find one deputy that enjoyed working with him. Even his best friend Macedo has not said a word about him. Anyone got a copy of Beeland's court papers asking for the Pitches motion? I bet we will find even more corruption and GOB's.

Mitchell, it is time to empty your desk, clean out the office and take your name off the wall because it will be Rivero's after the election. Been nice to know you (NOT!!!!).

and ability to do my job. It is hard enough to face the problems you
did cause and even harder to accept criticism for things that are
patently incorrect. Saturday nite at the fair I had an encounter with
(name redacted by RKM) where he treated me exceptionally rude &
disrespectful followed by another person referring to the publicity
surrounding me and saying he could pull a gun on me right now and if I
defended myself I'd be the one to go to jail.

While that post is a complete falsehood we will leave it up as it illustrates how this shadow group operates by practicing censorship and accusing others of it. This same 'we knew it first' approach is being taken with the Record-Bee as well.
LL group can make any claims they like but can they provide substantiation?
Ultimately nobody over there is willing to back what they claim with their identity.
Going forward we will be removing those types of posts.

Hey, hey, hey Rivero supporters. How y'all doin' this mornin'? It was a great week. Don't you agree? I attended two different "community gatherings" last week. I am omitting the details about these gatherings intentionally. Don't want the Rivero supporters to know where they need to focus attention. Anyway, I sent out an email to about 70 of my closest friends early in the week with a link to the LCN editorial. Then mid-week sent out another with a link to the "Diehl-Darms: Researching the sheriff's candidates" commentary. It appears that email has made its way to many, many more people around the county. The editorial and the commentary were the topic of discussion at both of the gatherings I attended. People are appalled by the tactics of the people that Rivero has working for him. (i.e. lovelace) At the first gathering, I only found one lonely Rivero supporter. The rest were voting for Baxter or Mitchell. Mostly Mitchell by the time I left. The one lonely Rivero supporter at the first meeting dug up 5 other Rivero supporters to bring to the second gathering. By the end of the day, I had converted 4 of those 5 people into Mitchell supporters. Boy was that lonely Rivero supported pissed off at me! Again, the editorial and commentary were what most people were chatting about. I loved every minute of it. Wish you could have been there Lovelace. Or maybe you were there. Were you the one lonely Rivero supporter? Hee hee hee

The sheriff's office later issued a statement explaining that Garzoli – who has a private pilot license – was on his own time during the flight,
and that he had an arrangement with the company's pilot to pay for
flight time toward his commercial pilot license when not on surveillance or sheriff's office business. The helicopter went to Ukiah to refuel
and when it took off Garzoli was paying for the time.

Mitchell told Lake County News at that time that the incident was a “nonevent.”

He explained that Garzoli and the company pilot had been flying on
reconnaissance and then, for the hour preceding the forced landing,
Garzoli changed his status to off-duty in order to work on his flying.

Mitchell said it was an impromptu arrangement. Garzoli, he said, explained to
him in detail his duty status at the time of the crash.
 

If someone had asked me 2 years ago if Liz was one of the GOB's I would have said no. Today I would say yes to that question.
 

That is a very important point Rivero 4, as the Democratic endorsement goes out to all the Democrats in the county and with that is the recommended voting choices, which of course is Rivero. Even those that are not aware of what has been going on in the county are going to get the recommendation for casting their vote for Rivero.

Lake County Deputy Francisco Rivero, who is running for sheriff, thinks the internal affairs investigation against him for alleged assault is complete-clearing him; yet he said Thursday he has not received proper notification from the department saying so.
On March 27, two deputy sheriffs served Rivero with a notice of investigation for allegedly using excessive force, gender profiling and sexual battery on Rhonda Straub Rully while on a domestic violence call with Deputy Bill Djernes. ' I'm innocent of everything I've been accused of," Rivero said.
"About two weeks ago, I was called in for an interview on the investigation with a Napa County District Attorney investigator, Bill Jabin," Rivero said. He said, Rully's husband was interviewed and I have been cleared. He said my story was consistent with the husband's and Deputy Bill Djernes's. He said the two interviews were completed. He said the information derived from interviews was consistent with what I had said." Jabin said he couldn't give details on the interviews he conducted.
" I submitted a report to the Sheriff's Office in Lake County," Jabin said. "They need to make the determination if anything needs to be done in the case."
The Lake County Sheriff's Office would not give details on the investigation.
" The Sheriff's Department does not make public, any information relating to internal personnel matters," Capt. Jim Bauman of the LCSO said. "Peace officers have a due process rights and we are obliged to protect those rights."
Sheriff Rod Mitchell, who is running for re-election said, "It seems that Mr. Rivero is more available to the local press than his command-level officers. He was instructed as of yesterday to contact Capt. Brown regarding the matter at-hand. It remains the position of this department that the obedience to penal code and obedience to regulations requires that these matters are not discussed publicly.'
