That's completely false 10:32. The POA bylaws require 100% support before they can endorse any candidate for office. There wasn't 100% support, but there was a large majority that voted to endorse the Sheriff. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

The Lake County Manifest and the sheriff Mitchell Watch Blog has learned that Sheriff Rodney Mitchell attended the (LPPD) Lake Port Police Departments POA(Police Officers Association) and department meeting today. Sheriff Mitchell gave a speech telling the officers he wanted their endorsement for Sheriff. The LPPD's head man chief Burke endorsed Mitchell during the primary, who is of course their boss. After a lengthy speech to the officers touting himself and why they should endorse him. The LPPD/POA officers held a secret ballot.

They rejected rejected sheriff Mitchell and would not give their endorsement. Not only did they strongly rebuke Mitchell, they subtly rebuked their own chief and told him they do not agree with his decision. This is a huge and damaging result for Mitchell.

It appears that the only LE endorsements he can muster are from those who are under his leverage of the pink slip or discipline. It was already reported that the DSA endorsement which turned out to be so damaging to Mitchell was not a secret ballot but was a strong arm forced vote executed by Mitchell DSA supporters who leveraged Mitchell's power against officers to force their vote.

Hey Anita, you have the authority to check Mitchell's words, to see if these officers were on duty or off duty.

Taxpayers shouldn't have to pay for wages of any people campaigning for Mitchell.

Well it is the same for all, post 817 the difficulty of this is keeping the focus on target, defending the system so it does not get brought down, which has been tried several times. And keeping the forum open to even those that would as you say name call etc. We limit profanity, we limit whining, we limit caps, we do not disparage spelling or sentence structure. But there will be a lot of back and forth bantering, truth and facts will always win in the end.

326 I read the articles in the Outlook and just wanted to say thanks Outlook for putting the information out there for the citizens and NOT censoring it. The public must know that RB and LCNs has controlled on what people read in their papers. Just as when it was of the most importance as the debates were neither RB or LCN ran with any of it. Outlook, shows how freedom of the press should work by putting the information out there and letting the citizens have access to it.

Yes the final count is suppose to be today, we think the standings will stay the same, but hold out hope that due to demographics that Mitchell could be 3rd man out, but quite doubtful. Now the other factor is we think Hopkins position will get even worse has he falls further into third place at the bottom of the ladder.

The reason you have not heard how the Middletown cowpoke thing went is it was a wash-out. If it had been worth a damn, the Mitchell supporters would have been trying to boast how great it was...Their silence is a sure sign of its faliure.

I was reading comments on RB topix about the Mitchell Cowpoke cafe thingy in Middletown. A Mitchell supporter was inviting the public to attend. Someone asked "what Mitchell's plans are after Rivero beats him in Nov". The Mitchell supporter replied that they weren't going to discuss that topic that evening. He then told the person with the question to attend and ask Mitchell himself "if he were brave enough"! You know its bad when even the Mitchell supporters ackknowledge that Mitchell is vindictive and you had better be brave enough to ask the hard questions or any question he may not like.

my insider source says not all is going well anyhow at the LPD, it's Volunteer Program seems to have hit the skids, like rats leaving a sinking ship, I used to see a couple of the guys/gals coming and going around the station, lately I have not seen any of them.
My guess with the guys not joining lock step with their Chief there is something more going on then the outsiders know about. Keep an eye on this see if you can find out where everyone has gone.

I predict that "Chief Kevin Burke" will take a job elsewhere before the beginning of Fall Season.

I hope the public understands that those of us who have families to support, have had no other choice than to remain silent, smile and PRETEND we love Rod Mitchell. WE DONT. When we went to our Polling Locations back on June 8, Myself, and several close friends DID NOT VOTE FOR MITCHELL. And we will do it the same way come November. I wish the public could know what stress and hell this Political Crap has added to our jobs. If my Supervisors found out I was posting this, I would be put on "Days on the Beach" (leave), and Im sure ultimatley fired.

Our computer usage is constantly monitored, internal phone use monitored, you dont know who is the department snitch, I actually thing that a couple of the cruisers are bugged. I am so damn sick and tired of this Campaign. I can tell you that the majority of my co-workers feel the same way..lets get Rod out of here, get Frank in and try to get back to the Business of Protecting and Serving the People.

Why are cops wives the source of derision here? Do they have some sort of jobs in positions of power? I know Von Morshed is a DA investigator. I understand why people who are suspcious of LE are curious about her, but I am not sure about Sarah Frace and Mary Grace. Isn't Mary Grace a beautician of some sort? I could be wrong about that. What does Sarah do that is a source of concern, except maybe have an opposing view from most people here? I am not making a judgment. I am just truly tying to understand the reason for the opinions. I know of two deputies that have wives that work in the court at some sort of management level, Dave Perry and Hart Gall, but there wives are never mentioned. Can I assume that is because there reputations are not in question? I am wondering because everyone with a LE connection seems to be placed in the "suspicious" category. Why is there suspicion or derision about some, but not others?

We haven't seen anything in a while on some of the wives that have been the subject of discussion in the past. However if you have not been on the blog for the full time, then you will not have an overview of what has happened. You should know that Dutra's wife, and several others were outed on this blog, and were posting hot and heavy. They caught hell from the citizens and were fair game at the time. They do not need protection in any way. We know the ones that are a problem and they are directly related to those cops that are a problem, some examples of this are Durta, Frace, Martin and several others. It has also been pointed out that many of these innocent wives are assisting Mitchell, and have their hands in the cookie jar. Many of these wives knew of Mitchells infidelities and kept quiet even though other women were being hurt. So that gives you a bit of an overview. Bottom line is they entered the fray of their own volition, and therefore they got hit, that is the way it is, don't go throwing around crap and then say, hey its not fair why are you picking on the wives.
Hope that helps. Personally I have never seen such plastic fake materialistic people in my life. These boys and girls use more make-up then Tammy Faye, and they do not show themselves to be to intellectually sharp, they appear to want to seem sharp, but as far as opponents go, not even a challenge.

As far as how much it hurt Rivero? He came in first place, so uh I guess not to bad, and that is first place against the incumbent.

After reading the comments about a botched investigation by CPD, I am not suprised. Under the watch of Alan McClain, morale has been at an all time low, officers have been overworked and if you do not agree with his regime...you are singled out. Good morning Lake County a couple of new items. We have placed a new article this morning on the Manifest on the Mercury mines citizens meeting, a good informative right up. Just placed it on the paper. Also the LPPD article and the Mitchell smack down is up as well.

We are accepting all poetry submissions to the Manifest and are creating a place to put peoples poetry work in the paper. So once every couple of days someone's poem will be published in the paper on the front page. Should be pretty neat.

BREAKING: Registrar of voters releases final vote count for June 8 primary

LAKEPORT – As business was ending on Thursday, the Lake County Registrar of Voters Office completed its final tally of votes for the June 8 primary election, including thousands of previously uncounted absentee ballots.

The result: No change in placement for candidates in local races.

In recent weeks, Registrar of Voters Diane Fridley and her staff have been processing more than 3,700 absentee, provisional and electronic ballot results, as well as conducting a manual tally of some precincts as part of the normal business of certifying the election.

Fridley had originally suspected there would be no major changes in how the candidates placed, and she was correct.

In the close district attorney's race, Don Anderson took 4,088 votes in the preliminary tally, followed by Doug Rhoades with 3,463 votes and incumbent Jon Hopkins with 3,258 votes.

The final results show Anderson still in the lead with 5,034 votes or 37.3 percent, with Rhoades narrowing his margin and coming in with 4,629 votes, or 32.4 percent.

Hopkins finished with 30.3 percent of the vote, or 4,329 votes cast for him, meaning the November runoff will be between Anderson and Rhoades.

In the sheriff's race, preliminary race results placed challenger Francisco Rivero in first place with 4,297 votes, followed by incumbent Rod Mitchell with 3,852 votes and Jack Baxter with 3,008 votes.

In the final tally, Rivero widened his margin over Mitchell slightly, with a total of 5,682 votes or 38.4 percent. Mitchell had 5,078 votes or 34.3 percent, followed by the race's other challenger, Jack Baxter, with 4,024 votes, or 27.2 percent.

In the District 3 supervisorial race, incumbent Denise Rushing was returned to office with a final tally of 1,625 votes or 54.6 percent, followed by challengers Gary Lewis with 691 votes or 23.2 percent, and Robert Hesterberg, who brought in 22.1 percent of the vote with 658 ballots cast for him.

District 2 Supervisor Jeff Smith easily won reelection in his race with 1,245 votes or 62.4 percent over challenger and Clearlake Vice Mayor Joyce Overton, who received 750 votes or 37.6 percent.

In the final tally for the superintendent of schools race, Wally Holbrook had 8,631 votes, or 59.6 percent, with Judy Luchsinger bringing in 5,840 votes or 40.4 percent.

First District Court throws out Lake County meth case

In a 2-1 decision, Division Two of the First District Court of Appeals voted to reverse a Lake County methamphetamine conviction based on an utter lack of investigative assistance provided to the public deffender for the defendent's illegal search claim.

Charles Jones was pulled over in his SUV for "running a stop sign", which at a 2006 hearing Jones' attorney Thomas Quinn said was a false pretext. He moved to dismiss the evidence found in the vehicle (methamphetamine and tear gas). The arresting officer acknowledged in a cross-examination that he had heard of Jones' activity prior to the stop from the Lake County Narcotics Task Force; this lent credibility to the claim that the evidence was obtained illegally.

At a recent hearing, witnesses were produced who claimed that Jones indeed stopped at the sign. In 2006, there were no witnesses called. Public Defender Quinn claimed he "forgot... due to the press of business or my relative inexperience with suppression motion practice at the time."

An investigator was hired by Jones' new lawyer to photograph the intersection and prove that it was impossible for the officer to see Jones run the intersection.

Presiding Justice Anthony Kline, on dismissing Jones' conviction today, demonstrated that 12 contract public defenders in Lake County share a single investigator. This investigator, he noted, is too busy for non-violent drug crimes.

Kline also criticises Judge Mann, who claimed that the legal defence was perfectly adequate. Kline commented that Mann "effectively absolved Quinn of the investigative responsibilities imposed by the professional guidelines and case law.”

The single dissenting vote, Justice Haerle, says he believed a more thorough investigation would show that Jones indeed ran the stop sign.

The court has now ordered that Mann hold another hearing for Jones.

The Manifest/Lovelace group is really all of you posting and gathering information, it is amazing because right now almost any question can be posted on here, and you will get an answer, this is technology and public communication combined. Along with the cause of needing to remove Mitchell and Hoppy. Which by the way done deal for Hoppy, official and off to November we go. Got a feeling a lot of dancing is going to be in order for Rodney.
 

We are also working on printed versions on the Manifest, so all donations and articles, and opinions can be submitted, if you donate then participate either on the forums or the articles. Submit your own work, or ideas, this paper is going to evolve over the next few months. Thanks to everybody!!

good morning Lake County..That was a great day yesterday a lot of good posting, the final county is finally done, no changes as we suspected would happen the trend lines were not going to change enough for a position change.

I know this site is about Mitchell but I have nowhere else to voice my oppinions about what I am seeing at CLPD. It's bad and I see it getting worse all the time. I look out of my shop and while I drive around town all I see scum all over the place. I have lived in Clearlake for over thirty years. I remember all of the old CLPD Police Chiefs and the officers. I had the chance to complain to each of them. I had someone i was talking with the other day refer to Allen McClain as the "NEW CHIEF." I realized that he wasn't new. He's been here for a few years now. It's been almost four years since Bobby Chalk left. I decided that I wanted to talk to the new Chief. I heard that he was a racist who fired Officer Ray Brady and was messing with the black guy who owns the new bar on Lakeshore Drive. When I went to the cop shop. All I got was a secretary giving me the third degree about what I wanted. I was made to feel like I was going to speak to the Pope. At least I was able to see the other chiefs when they were out doing police work and speak to them. I almost never see Mcclain and I hear he never works. Mcclain has never come into my business and even said BOO to me. I have also been hearing this from alot of my fellow businessmen. I don't want to join Rotary club just to speak to the Chief of Police. What has this NEW CHIEF done in the long time he has been here. My shop maybe a bit dirty and I don't wear a suit and tie but I am really insulted that in the three years he has been here he hasn't had the courtesy to even come by and say hi. I now some of the cops and they aren't happy either. I like Ray Brady and I respect him. I am mad that McClain fired him. Thats what I wanted to talk to McClain about but I knew his secretary wouldn't allow me to see him. It's hard to form an oppinion when you only have one side of the story. From what I know of Ray Brady and what I see of the arrogant lazy Chief of Police, I am siding with Ray Brady. Something really smells bad at CLPD.
 

This site is not designed in the long run to be just about Mitchell although that is the main focus right now. We have been slowly turning some attention to the major issues in the Clearlake PD and specific to the chief whom we have very little professional respect for. There is indeed trouble in river city in Clearlake, as the elections close in November the Lovelace focus will be turned towards other issues, such as what you describe post 900. Be patient as we are as we speak gathering evidence and information to bring to bear on areas such as Clearlake, the Bos, Rob Brown, and many other people and concerns. Keep up the good fight.
 

The issue of Brady is not over by a long shot. He is finalising his appeal process and when he is ready the fight will be brought to the people and to the council. We stand ready to help when the time is right.
