It is interesting... Lake County had a Board of Stupidvisors for years that treated sheriff's personnel poorly. Because of that, Lake County had difficulty hiring decent people. The bright ones they did get were young, most of whom have moved on to bigger and better things. There were also a handful of locals who are great and are there for the right reasons. But, a large portion of their force was rejects who couldn't get hired by Bay Area or valley agencies for one reason or another. People used to refer to CPD and LCSO as "Last Chance PD" and "Last Chance S.O." Well, in this world you get what you pay for. These people were unhireable elsewhere for a reason. Now you are stuck with them. You are lucky to have some fantastic people at your sheriff's office, but you are really paying dearly for the reckless and horrible decisions of your former elected supervisors. Those decisions, coupled with an elected sheriff who lacks leadership ability, were seen by many as a ticking time bomb for the last decade and a half. I like Lake County and have many friends there. I wish all of you the best luck in professionalizing your Sheriff's Office starting a new era. Such a beautiful county should not be so disfunctinal.

This is the Lovelace group we are going to do a bit of clean up, from the now so boring corruption supporters, but we must say you guys just stomped them today, And what's the deal XX with that guy not getting the great humor in the soon to come Lovelace shirts. hell we thought that was funny as hell, I mean picture these guys running around thinking they got Lovelace then finding 200 people with the same shirt on, we were rolling on the floor. Thanks everybody for the support on the T-shirt idea, when we get the process in place we will let everyone know. As you may know we have to be cautious, as to who we use, we suspect out of the ocunty for printing the shirts, so we have to put the process together. We are starting to incur some costs as well, printing of flyers, shirt's, we want to do some mailings to penetrate the Mitchell demographic, so that will cost etc etc. If we have to its coming out of our pockets, and we will do it. But if any one has suggestions of getting some funding through donations or whatever that would be cool. We would like to throw a big party, and get everyone to kick in, but would have to be real cautious on the exposure, the corruption supporters get wind of it, and they will be out like hound dogs on a coon hunt. More to come in a few.

first of all on post 212 great post and thank you so much, it is posts like those that keep us going. Actually there were a ton of great posts this afternoon, and a lot of things are happening. Let's start with the initial response on the flyers we had placed. Some reports came in that it was being discussed in Lakeport and at the courthouse, so we got those folks attention. This was just the first phase of this flyer process we are going to change them go two color and do some different things. But the initial response was a good one, we like to hear the feedback and that alot of people were talking about them.

We are working hard in a couple of areas, that are being investigated as we speak, but will stay cool on those for right now, don't want to give anyone a heads up. We are looking at a number of the GOB's group, you know the Frace, Dutra, Hommer, etc group. We have had contact with the commission on judical performance and the investigation on Judge Martin is going forward. Will update you as soon as we hear something. We have been contacted by two out of area groups that are watching the site and the goings on here in Lake County and have offered their help if we need it. We appreciate that and it is amazing how far and wide this is reaching.

Post 5:15 we agree with what you are saying, simply not the exact word usage, hope you don't mind if we drag it to the box and change a few words and re-post it. If when you see the post you don't like it we will take it down and let you re-post. Hope that is alright because you make some good points, we are just trying to keep it a bit clean on the site, as it gets out of hand if we let everything go.

OMG can ya believe it. Susan Kronen's ignorance is unbeliveable, and supportive of Hopkins. She must know, that if we elect someone that is Hopkins or a Hopkins clone, she'll be gone like yesterdays dish water. She has worked on something like fifteen hundred cases in the last year, and took around a half dozen to trial, of which half she lost. She is the most clueless lawyer I have ever seen. Seeing her in court could cause a stampeed of litigants to start defending themselves. The only thing she is worse at, more than the law, is being a radio personality.

4:11 How could "his personal situation" affect his ability to charge someone? He isn't a prosecuting attorney, and doesn't have the power to "charge someone." What are you talking about? His ability to defend someone? The post doesn't make any sense...
 

He elected to file charges against someone regarding a personal family situation because this person chose not to accept his life altering offer. I will not go into details because this matter is a private one but his decision to go ahead with filing charges tells me he is self serving.

So let me get this one right. The DDA's support Hopkins who would not file charges against Perdock, not even perjury. Hopkins handled a murder case that had to be taken out of county and looses that down to manslaughter. Than Hopkins' Office is one of only two of our 58 counties in California that does not use a system of negotiated dispositions in handling felony criminal cases. This is done to tell the suspect in advanced exactly what his punishment will be if found guilty after a trial. When the suspect finds he/she is possibly going for a long time, he/she is more up to pleading guilty to avoid a trial. This saves the county a lot of money.

Great work Hopkins. Great support DDA Association.

Certainly, a district attorney should not be judged by one case to the exclusion of all others. To do so would be short-sighted and, frankly, if Jon Hopkins is not reelected, Lake County will lose one of the best skilled prosecutors in the state.

Usually judging an attorney on only one case would be unfair, but this is not just about an average case. The Dinius trial went nation wide. It appeared on two local different news shows (Sacramento and San Francisco) and was even a battle inside the DA's Office itself. This case was not supervised properly, was not organized properly and was not presented properly. From lost evidence that majestically shows up to expert witnesses battling each other.

There are cases in the past where just one case overturned a DA from his office. Most people remember the Lacrosse team members accused of rape. That case was not only a failure but cost that DA his job and career.

You judge a politician on how he manages his job and listens to the public. The public did not want the Dinius case, the victim's family did not want the Dinius case and the DDA's didn't even want to charge this case as a manslaughter (or felony DUI). If you can not listen, than you should not be in politics'.
 

7:31 PM The one case is the Dinius case. Common sense was left out when charges were filed, period. I don't care how many caes Hopkins has won in the past, I care that he lost his common sense when Bismark Dinius was charged. I care that when the time came a decision was made somewhere along the line to charge an innocent man, Bismark Dinius. Now do you understand why I don't, won't and never will support Hopkins? I have common sense. My vote is for Don Anderson.

Now since Mitchell became Sheriff he's mismanaged Perdock, Garzoli, Morshed and trusted a sergeant to supervise his range masters who ends up using assault weapons on the LCSO range and stealing LCSO property. Do you see a problem? #1 has absolutely NO professional management experience prior to becoming sheriff. #2 not only has management experience, but even stood up to a corrupt politician over a 15 year court battle, won and never backed down.

Seems to me that Rivero will do exactly what he says. Increase deputy training, more detectives and accountability in Internal Affairs investigations.

Okay, Here isw a Hommer update....apparently Mark Hommer has ousted Kevin Henderson (as in father-James Henderson's son) from his "head handyman" position at "shoreline storage"! On fifteen different occasions, Mark Hommer has been spotted in his "red" dually performing duties at his father-in-law's storage facility! Hey Homely, how did the "slide" feel? Sheriff Mitchell should ask Lakeport Police chief to help him fire Perdock and Garzoli. It appear once again that Mitchell in over his head as always.
 

Sheriff Mitchell is putting everything on the Sheriff Office Web site, except the EEOC report. I wonder why, He keeps hiding the report from the Public. Come on Rodney have a back bone, come clean before your voted out of office.
 

Mitchell will never release the EEOC findings because it is damaging. Even if it is very slightly damaging, Mitchell knows that Rivero will dance the "I told you so dance". No response to me is a cover up to hide the truth. The only truth I see in not releasing the findings are that racial injustice is present in LCSO and Mitchell's management is doing little to none in stopping it. It doesn't take a brain scientist to just look at Mitchell's chain of command and see no minorities in it.

There are Hispanic's, an Italian, a black, a Cuban, an Iranian and several female deputies in LCSO, but not in the Chain of Command. Two females an Italian and an Iranian have even been there almost 10 years. Only white males are in the deputies Chain of Command.

Why doesn’t someone ask Sheriff Mitchell why he just got around to signing the Lake county Code of Ethics that hangs in the County Administrative office? Seems that all department heads had signed it long ago except for the Sheriff. He just recently decided that he should sign it.
 

great work on the flyers, as we said they were the talk of the town in Lakeport, we are setting up another distribution plan, and will continue to flood the county throughout the election. Thanks for posting them in cobb, don't be concerned about the rules and regulations of the post office or other areas, we have seen more crap up in these local post offices then liquor store. Print the copy we will post again below and distribute them throughout the county. Everyone who can print these flyers do so, the wider the distribution the better.

Denise Rushings age we believe is appox 53, and you are correct these supervisors have been seen throughout the area except in Lake County shopping. These BOS are talking out of both sides of their mouths. The country is going to throw out 3/4 of the senators and congressmen in the upcoming election and Lake County needs to do the same thing. Post 10:34 that certificate is what you get for being an organic in rushings case it doesn't mean much as her Orchard produces very little walnuts as the tree's are quite old, it is more of a look I am organic gardener then anything else. By the way almost the entire comment in the Lake Co. news is negative concerning Hopkins endorsement. The citizens are speaking loud and clear.
 

Alright looks like Hopkins had some problems in Santa Cruz, usual disagreements of who said what, my my Jon this seems to follow you everywhere. You are one slippery snake eh, and damn we ended up with you in lake county. Here is the excerpt from the Santa Cruz article.


The candidate besides Canlis with the most to lose in the process is Hopkins, whose role has been eclipsed as Canlis' has grown. His position is not protected by civil service, so if Danner gets the judicial appointment, Hopkins may soon be out of a job anyway, forced to step aside so a new DA can pick his or her own chief deputy. Many believe Danner would try to find a way to get rid of him before he takes the judgeship, if it is offered; doing so would allow Canlis to become acting DA, clearing up any confusion during the transition. Giving her a chance to run the office alone while the supervisors deliberate might also give Canlis a leg up.

Danner would not confirm or deny those rumors but did say there had been discussions between himself and Hopkins over the latter's future.

"Jon has told me that he wants to obtain employment elsewhere, and it may be that he does before my term ends," Danner says. "I've urged him to look at those options."

"I haven't had any conversation where I've told him I wanted to leave before he gets appointed," counters Hopkins.

Except for one year spent as executive director of the California District Attorneys Association, from 1986 to 1987 (three years before Canlis), Hopkins has worked in the Santa Cruz County DA's office since 1979. He recently returned from trying a homicide case in Lake County--an assignment some thought of as a form of temporary exile.

At a recent fundraiser for Second Harvest Food Bank, Hopkins was seen huddling with incoming Supervisor Tony Campos, who some think may be the swing vote. Hopkins says, incredibly, that he did not talk about the DA job with Campos. Campos did not return phone calls. Hopkins says he hasn't made up his mind about running in 2000 if he is not appointed, but some observers believe he will.
 

By the way another heads up, Rivero has a fund raiser on the 19th of the month at 3:00pm at the Rob Roy golf course, everyone please plan on attending, we need to give him all the support as possible, they originally were going to set it up as a private affair and Rivero said no, we want the public at all events, they don't get left out of anything. Thanks Mr. Rivero, he understands transparency.

On one of my out building.It says."We support Frank Rivero" Put it up as soon as I knew he would have my vote. Those that would forgive the actions of Mitchell and Hopkins over the Dinius case are as low as them.
 

Lovelace, see a slight connection on the Santa Cruz thing? Not only did Hopkins get sort of exiled from Santa Cruz, but was it not Capt. Brown who was escorted out of the Sheriff's Office for harassing Lande? Seems they don't like Mitchell's management either.

While reading "Lakeport topix" I see a Lakeport man was arrested by Ukiah PD for the embezzelement of Ukiah Fire dept of equipment worth $6K. Joe Szupello, 35 was arrested on 3/9/2010. I looked it up the booking on mendocinosheriff.com and it was the Joe Szupello I know. Funny he is related to a lot of local LE. Andy Davison for one. He is currently dating the ex-wife of a LCSD. I was surprized that the RB or at least Lake Co News didn't pick up on it..yet.
 

If Szupello is dating Davidson's ex-wife, than he needs a lot of help. That girl is psycho. He will most likely enjoy time in jail just to get away from her.

This is Lovelace, a couple of quick hit items, There was a question regarding if Baxter had responded yet to the question concerning supporting Rivero if the time comes where he see's he would not win the election. Or for example if it ended up in a run-off, and he was bottom man out. He has not responded to that inquiry as of yet.

This e-mail was short but very telling, it said this..."Be aware as the election goes forward Mitchell will be attempting to attack Rivero and Baxter, and these attacks will be severe." This is all the message said, However we have received information before from this individual who uses a certain sign off when sending messages to us. We thought now is the right time to release this.

We have a plan moving forward for this Tuesday and there will be another distribution of flyers, this will be a different approach then the last one, as we want to spin this in various different directions to keep the corruption supporters off guard. If Mitchell wants to play hard ball, Rivero will play back. He has been given information about Mitchell and Brown that if released would end both of their careers. The person that supplied him that information has requested it not be released until the last two weeks prior to the election. This information is from within LCSO and documents some very serous violations of policy. Not just LCSO policy, but county and state policy.

Please, do not lump Rachel Breeze in the same category as her brother, Joe Szuppello, or any of his family members for that matter. Rachel is a great person and barely even speaks with her brother. She, along with everyone else who knows him, has known for a long time what kind of person he is.
 

Sheriff Mitchell has been threatening his Employees and creating a hostile work environment. Now that's something the BOS must act upon and investigate. If they fail to do so We the taxpayers could once again be paying millions of dollars for Mitchell actions. The BOS must remove him from office while investigating this. You know IA him and his questionable behavior. As the Department head Mitchell sets the tone for the Department. The BOS must act on this and try to save us the taxpayers some money and protect the employees working in the Sheriff's Department. That's their job. The County has policies prohibiting this behavior.

The BOS can only hold Lake county money. That's it. He only answers to the voters or Moonbeam and hes not coming. The BOS could make some commits about what is going on but that would take some courage. Their not going to get involved with internal politicking. The BOS system has lost who they speak for and who they represent until election time.

James the BOS controls the Sheriff's Money that is correct, however they also have policies and procedures for the County of Lake that prohibits "hostile work environment". Other County Departments must follow the policies and procedures as well as the Sheriff Department. The BOS must act on this NOW.
 

The Hostile Environment rule has no teeth. Management could care less because there is no penalties like sexual harassment has. Mitchell's management will not find anything on Morshed's equipment, now they will go after him for petty things. Examples are arriving to work several minutes late, uniform appearance, talking back to a superior and more. It will be charges that other deputies don't even get a blink at but Morshed will be hammered. It's Mitchell's way or the highway.
 

Sorry, "Here" is a thought, since Mitchell can't control his managers or supervise LCSO properly, why not lower HIS pay?

This is a scathing report, and points directly in one direction the BOS and our local government. They indeed have failed us and this write is proof of the problems all citizens are experiencing. Through what we believe is a total lack of committment and intelligence on the part of the BOS, an inability to correctly guide us into the future they and the county are failing. That's right, “blessed.” This is Lake County after all, where about one in five people can't find a job. The Noonkesters are happy to have a regular paycheck.

The economy in Lake County, never hearty in the best of times, has gotten so bad that on Monday, the Associated Press reported that it had the 14th worst economy in December among the nation's 3,141 counties with at least 25,000 inhabitants. It ranked worse than the notoriously devastated economies of Riverside County and Wayne County, Mich., home to Detroit.

“Lake County is one of those places that is in big trouble,” said David Gallo, a professor of economics at Chico State University. “I don't really see what is going to bring them back.”

In the past two years, unemployment has more than doubled, to 18.5 percent. The bankruptcy rate has tripled to 1.4 percent. And the foreclosure rate has quadrupled to 3.7 percent, according to the Economic Stress Index released Monday by the Associated Press. The index uses those three measurements to analyze U.S. county economies.

Those trends might continue, Gallo said.

“They don't have any advantages,” he said. “They don't have great natural resources. They don't have cheap labor. And they don't have access to great transportation.”

The 2009 summer tourism season never materialized, according to Lakeport merchants.

“Business is down 40 to 50 percent in the last two years,” said Clyde Vincent, owner of Mallard House Motel in Lakeport. “We're limping through this.” Vincent is working to renegotiate his business loan with the bank in the hope of lowering his monthly payments.

Lake County's economy is not well-diversified, and during the boom years relied heavily on tourism, wine grapes and the real estate industry, said Debra Sommerfield, who works in the county's Economic Development Department. The recession hit all three of those sectors pretty hard in 2009, and left many of the county's estimated 65,000 residents hurting, she said.

As a result, the unemployment rate climbed rapidly in late 2009. There is no indication that trend will stop soon. Lake County usually lags behind the rest of the country, Sommerfield said.

Unemployment would be higher, except people are likely leaving the county in search of greener pastures, said Gallo, who has worked with the county's Economic Development Department in the past.

“People have either left the area or have just given up looking for work,” he said.

Down the street at a cafe near the courthouse, Victoria Philipp is calling it quits. She is closing Café Victoria at the end of the week and moving back to Sonoma County.

“People just don't come out,” she said. “Last summer's tourism season just never materialized.”

In November, the area's largest resort, Konocti Harbor Resort and Spa, closed. It had employed 100 full-time workers, and during the peak season employed an additional 500 part-time workers. That was a substantial hit to an economy that only employs 25,000 people. With the closure of the resort's 5,000-seat amphitheater, local hotels, restaurants and shops no longer enjoy the economic benefit of having big-name musicians visit the area.

Robert Sutton, owner of Sutton Associates Wealth Management in Lakeport, said he was a little surprised that Lake County ranked 14th-worst in the county. But he knows that many of his clients were hurting
 

Thanks for the article Lovelace, what you the citizens see here is a direct result of the BOS not being intelligent enough to see the future react accordingly and by plan vs. knee jerk reactions to events that come up on them to quickly. These people on the taxpayers dime are working 25 hours a week at the most with one meeting a week. This is the proof of this, and of the total mis-management, due to a lack of proper intellect and insight. Vote these people out!!

There are businesses that are clean industry and would do well here, but the political climate is so bad no business wants to go where it is an uphill battle. I solicited along with Gary Jensen back in the early 80's and indeed there were businesses (Blue Sheid) that came only to be destroyed. The Blue Sheild business of course is Social Services. The Clearlake National Bank became Lake County Mental Health services. It isn't hard to see what the corruption has brought to Lake County. Then again if the corrupt of the Lake County Law Enforcement have made terrorism and drug use and porn distribution the "only game in town" what did you expect?
Lake County IS and has been a dumping ground for this illegal activityl. A virtual war zone and a scene of hopeless endevour for your children, when the "powers that are in place" are as evil as one can imagine. Exactly whom are they supposed to role model with their parents being so complacent. The parents who ARE involved and looking toward a healthy socioeconomic base and don't play "ball" with the corrupt are destroyed systematically. It is a crying shame. Mitchell doesn't act alone. He has followers and then a number of others on his "team" that enable and encourage him by just looking the other way and putting their hands out to reap the benefits of his sick games. They are guilty too and anyone not "going with the flow" is treated with contempt.

We agree post 1221, the local system in total is broken, this condition has been seen in a number of different counties and cities across this state, and the only manner in which it is fixed and a new and effective change happens is with a complete house-cleaning. Getting the word out to the majority of the citizens will have to be the key as the elections progress. The BOS for example is concerned with GMO's while the county falls apart around them. There is nothing wrong with the GMO debate we will grant you, however the BOS needs to be able to prioritize their efforts this they seem unable or unwilling to do. The unchecked antics of Mitchell and Hopkins is the perfect example of this. This is going to be a continuing uphill battle as we rattle the cages of these ignorant politicians, it appears that with what has been available in Lake county, we have gotten in the past and now, less then functional government officals across the board.

Fry or even any former Sheriff. I don't see ANY former deputies listed on his site to endorse him except Buchholz (and he can have him).

That is nice to know that Smith did not endorse Mitchell. So that means no supervisor as of today is supporting Mitchell or any candidate.
