Garzoli is now Sgt.Garzoli because of helicopter crash incident that took place a few months ago while he was an uncertified pilot, well Rodney may have punished him but it didn't effect his salary. Garzoli is making that same money before the incident as after the incident. Some punishment.

Because of a jealous bartender; who called the cops and said (lied) that she "refused to leave" a total bogus statement...was then detained by Hommer; not even "arrested"....brought to jail; and was never allowed to defend herself as Hommer refused to let her talk.
I will never ever go into Clearlake Club ever; for fear.....I could never survive an ordeal like this....and truly believe Hommer had some deep seated problem to do this to her. It's lawlessness...This can happen to anyone...and that is what is criminal...

Let me point out something about the DEA grant.
It is unthinkable to imagine that Mitchell could prepare and/or write a grant. There is to much research, documents to fill out, meetings to attend and other things to process the grant that a Sheriff would not have the time to do. But when a grant is done, it must be reviewed by someone other than the writer. I by no means believe Mitchell should have prepared the DEA grant, but he should have reviewed it, or at least have a captain review the lieutenant's work. After that, the captain should give the Sheriff a briefing of the final proposal. NO grant should be requested without checks and balances and that is a review before making the request.

Lets look at Rivero. He prepared a bid to handed dead bodies for San Francisco when he owned a crematory. He did the paperwork and the research. When he lost that bid based on a corrupt politician, Rivero used his own money to fight the city. This case took 15 years costing him a lot of money and even laying off employees. In the end, Rivero won his case, but as I said before, it took 15 years. Read the news report on Rivero's link and see the hell he went through.

This should show you that RIvero reviews his work and even fights corruption no matter the cost or time.

Lets talk about the retired Clearlake cop. This guy has some screws loose, but don't take my word for it, just talk to a CLPD officer's who knew him. Why do you think he came in LAST when he ran for Sheriff against Mitchell the first time. Do you really want a Clearlake cop running the Sheriff's Office?

Look at the qualifications of the candidates and then tell me why you believe Rivero deserves my vote. All challengers appear to me to have similar beliefs regarding the overhaul of the department. Who has the experience to follow through and make it happen? My vote is for Baxter. He’s 65 by the way and if he’s only here for one term think about it for a minute. A lot can be accomplished in four years.

Question for Rivero: Now that there are others joining in on the race for Sheriff, you stated if Mitchell were to win the election that you would no longer work for LCSO. So, if one of the new canidates were to win, would you continue on with LCSO and stand side by side with them to oversee the revamp of the entire office?

Much will be said and come to the surface in the coming weeks concerning the new folks running for sheriff, I wouldn't cast your vote in any directioon right now, let the information and discussion take place, those that simply jump on a bandwagon after reading one article, and doing themselves a dis-service..The first comment from Lovelace is now Mitchell will have 3 people beating on him, which is always good. You should look up what happened to Marty when he ran aganist Mitchell 15 years ago...the story of that time is quite interesting, and we will be posting more as time goes on. Just remember the sole purpose of this blog is the remopval of Mitchell and Hopkins, the new person will have to agree on citizen oversight and a host of other conditions that they will need to commit to. This is a new day in Lake County, and the citizens must be sure the new players are exactly what we want. Let the games bewgin. Lovelace is thankful that with our help we caused Mitchell to bleed enough so that everyone knew he was vulnerable, for the first time in many years. If Mitchell were to win, he would fire Rivero. When Mitchell looses, he is gone. He has no job. It is not like he is demoted. If he wanted to stay he would have to reapply and be hired as a deputy.
 

We can tell you Rivero's answer he has alredy said it, he welcomes everyone in to the race, Rivero would stay if Mitchell were out. That is a simple one.
 

Lovelace, I'm with you and want the house clean too. I've done my own background check on Mr. Baxter. I've spoken with people who worked side by side with him for many years so I'm jumping ship but only with respects to my vote for our new sheriff. Peace and keep up the fantastic work your group is doing.
 

If Baxter is elected, Rivero will stay with the SO. Even if Baxter only stays for one term, given his experience and professionalism he could be a mentor to Rivero and prime & polish him to win the next election. Rivero will continue what Baxter set in motion and we all win.
 

Rivero can move mountains. So it's true Baxter and McCarthy have entered the sheriff's race. Baxter, thanks for putting your name in but at 65 you should be thinking of retiring not taking on a corrupt SO. Then there's McCarthy experienced but he's interested in getting Tribal Police connected with county and state police. We don't need that just yet. We need someone who can move mountains, who is willing to terminate poor performing officers and willing to put a citizens complaint committee in the works. An officer who will connect with the people. A man who will clean the office of the dirty corruption within it and restore respect-that is sheriff Rivero. He's young enough and has the LE and business experience behind him.
We don't need anyone trying to split the votes and having Mitchell reelected because of it. I would hope that Baxter and McCarthy would reconsider and stand behind Rivero for change.
 

McCarthy is full of b.s. Like telling the people at Robinson Rancheria that he "charged" into the rancheria in the Oaks when there was an uprising because the sheriff's department would not. The sheriff's department people went in. McCarthy was not even there. There are other things he has lied about and I will print them later. Have to go to work now.
 

I'll take back the statement about Baxter. I just got done reading his profile on Lake Co News. He has a very impressive background including on going education and management experience. His experience, like Rivero, comes from years of service with a large department, not a paid reserve or a vegetable handler for Safeway. I look forward to hearing him in debates in the future. As I said in one of my earlier comments, "show me one person running against Mitchell and I'll drop the ***Rivero for Sheriff*** moniker." I will now change my moniker so that if anybody(Mitchell supporters) what's to challenge my comments you know khow who I am.

This McCarty guy. Did anyone notice how many law enforcement careers he's had in such a short time? He was a sergeant with CLPD, then ends up working security. Don't try to hide the truth, the Hopeland Tribal Police are nothing more than security guards with very limited arrest authority. They do not go through a full police background check (well call a POST background check). That's all we need, another narcissist Sheriff.

I have posted numerous times and have been called a "mitchell supporter" but I have to admit I finally agree with rivero4sheriff who is now anyone but mitchell. I will no longer complain to lovelace about your moniker.
 

The person that becomes Sheriff has to deal with a lot of problems. You have captains who will do anything to boost their ego including writing supervisors up, but do nothing to another supervisors who does the same thing (taken from the radio debate).

You have a deputy promoted after having a poor performance incident. Another deputy promoted to sergeant who had sex with a primary witness in a homicide case and another deputy promoted to sergeant 18 months after pulling and pointing a loaded gun at another deputy while drunk.

A sergeant promoted to lieutenant without ever supervising deputies. A sergeant given only a suspension for having sex on duty with a clerk and another sergeant in charge of the range that couldn't supervise his range masters costing the loss of county property.

Then you have deputies involved in racial misconduct. We are told to except the findings of an Internal Affairs report done by Capt. Brown, but time and time again, Mitchell refused to release the EEOC findings. Brown is well known for kissing and protecting Mitchell at all costs. The EEOC investigation was done by an outside agency.

We all know Rivero is sick of all the above and has stated what he plans to do. Baxter shows interest in the Dinius case misconduct and has experience and education to address it. Forget McCarty, just another guy who can't hold a job.

If you observe him over a period of time you'll see him walking arount the court house giving hugs/handshakes to different people he considers his friends. Other times he stalks, harasses, abuses people he might deem a target. His reasoning? Who knows what goes on in his head. He was fired for lying, that there were a few people happy about it....well aren't you? I am sorry to hear what happen to your young friend(s). It is because of the abuses such as what your friend endured that people come here to post and get it out in the open.
 

Mr. McCarthy may I suggest it would be more effective if you started up your own website so the public can get a clear understanding about you and your strategic plans.

McCarthy, I am "Rivero for Sheriff" (Now "Anyone buy Mitchell") and I've been with LCSO for a long time. First off, I said nothing about you posting on this blog and feel free to do so. I feel anyone that would run against Mitchell has to have experience with both management issues and supervisory issues. Fist off, Rivero was with SFPD for a lot more than 3 years and graduated the academy Valedictorian. He worked several districts and was a narcotic's detective. He has a history of fighting corruption that included a 15 years fight against the county Medical Examiner.

The Elem thing I spoke about(Known at LCSO as The Elem Incident) was what I referred to. I remember three SWAT teams and us going in, but I don't remember even seeing you there. I spoke with several CLPD cops that do not hold you very high (all in the management positions). Why did you leave CLPD?

Don't try to compare Tribal Police to full time Peace Officers. Tribal Police only have limited arrest authority on their property. They are not covered under 830.8(b) or have 830-PC status. They are not designated under US Title 18 as Law Enforcement Officers (although Bureau of Indian Affairs Police are). Tribal Police are controlled by the tribe and have a history of enforcing laws against non Indian's, but arrest a tribal official and STAND BY (as you found out). I also have a problem that you have no law enforcement experience since CLPD, so why did you leave it?

Again, please feel free to post you comments, I do not think anyone who controls this site would stop you. The people that are bitching are most likely Mitchell supporters. I challenge you to change your mind. As you've read in my past comments, I would change my mind if evidence indicates I am wrong.

The definition I have is "someone who has committed a crime or has been legally convicted of a crime". I have to think that you are of the opinion that provide you with confidential information are not criminals? This is Lovelace first we want to thank Marty for posting on our website, we appreciate it very much. You will find that this site is not about politics, it is not about skirtting around issues we hit hard and we hit direct. This model was developed after much investigation into the different blogs and website that were out there, and there are many, and with the idea in mind of dealing directly with the citizens at street level. We are not interested in stuffed shirts, and can hold our own with anyone anywhere. For this reason this site now receives more hits then the record bee and Lake Co new combined. We don't care a whole lot about perfect spelling and sentence structure, we care about the truth period. As we said we are glad you joined in. We will warn you of one thing do not get caught lying, trying to leave out facts or situations, and tell all with honesty. The people will respond to you. In the following post we put up we will ask you on the public thread a set of questions and ideas, we have already done a lot of research on you as well as Baxter, and the majority of this day several people from the Lovelace group have been focusing their attention on the both of you. We are already in communication with Mr. Baxter and will be talking with him next week on a number of issues we will bring to the table. Those questions will follow this post shortly.

A few other items, the entire day as it appears been an excellent communication exchange on the blog, it is good to see. First the Mitchell resigination was indeed in Mendocino, but hey perhaps Our Mitchell will get the hint.

Also one last thing Marty, be aware we have folks in alot of places sometimes we will use quotes of yours and you did not know one of us was there, sometimes we will have information and details that you cannot figure out how we got it. This is not bragging it is a necessary component of what we do to ensure everyone is on the up and up with us.
 

Well, I'm not Lovelace, but I see what your getting at here. In my opinion as a outsider of law enforcement with no connections, I believe that with what I have not only witnessed but have read and heard, confidential pertaining to our local law enforcement is that to keep from the public so that we are not clued into the dishonor of some of the cover ups that LE have tried for so many years to hide from us. Those giving out possible confidential information to help to uncover this disception should be commended. The word confidential is usually used to protect one from something. I feel many laws and wording of such laws need to be addressed on this very issue especially when it comes to personnel matters! Yes, it is according to some laws a criminal act. On the other hand, don't LE use criminals as informants in exchange for whatever they deem fit?
 

How come no one else knows that Sheriff Rod has been emailing PERS and asking for an estimate of what he would get should he retire on 6-30-10. (end of the Fiscal Year) That would be along with his accumulated sick leave (50%) and all of his vacation.

Question 3 was there an issue with a dispatcher in Clearlake PD, if so what was the issue? Do you deem it a passing event of no consequence or is it something you wish to talk about?

Tribal chiefs tell us you left Hopland back in October, this was verified in the Lake Co new article today. please elaborate on the details of this departure. And why is your name still listed on the register of Hopland?

Question 4; Were there any alcohol issues while you worked at CLPD, we are not concerned that their were, many good people have had them, but if it is part of the record and you wish to discuss it that is fine.

Question 5: What happened at the Santa Rosa PD when you left there?

When you ran against Mitchell 15 years ago did you come in 4th place, and if so what do you feel the reasons for this were?

Question 6: You soft touched Mitchell in the Lake Co News article, do you really believe Mitchell is a decent guy in character, and as a person who cares?

Question 7: Would you be willing to sit down with members of the Lovelace group for further discussions and be able to keep our anonymity? Mr. Baxter has already indicated he would do so.

We are going to leave the questions at this point although we have many more. Another word of caution you will be warned about us from various news outlets, and they may tell you to be cautious or watch out or other such nonsense, we are asking you to be straight forward with us, and honest. Certain people are out for their own interests and do not like the idea of our success. I have a few questions for Mitchell regarding the Dinius case.

1. You were the senior person on scene. it was a Friday night and you knew that Perdock was involved. You need to get approval from a department before making a request for assistance in an investigation. Did you, or why did you not call Napa County Sheriff's. I understand there are deputies, a detective and a lieutenant that live inside Lake County. You could have used your cellphone to call Sheriff Simpson in Napa. What did you do?

2. In your website response, a question was made about Beland using a PAS on Perdock. You stated the units were within calibration and Morshed was wrong. Who calibrates the units and how does he tell other deputies if the units are good or not?

3. Why did you hug Perdock and comfort him. The injured parties were on the other boat. Why did you not comfort them?

7:04 PM, Beland was the only person since I can remember that calibrated the PAS units. Nobody did it before him. He would put out an email to all deputies and say if the PAS units are good or which one was not. He took that job very seriously and threatened to write up several deputies for taking the units home. I do not see any way Morshed would come up with the idea that the PAS units were not calibrated in over a year. Usually Beland calibrates them right next to Morshed's office.

Question 3 (labeled again)- Sixteen years ago, the only two "issue(s)" with a dispatcher(s)" in Clearlake PD, if I am reading through the lines correctly, were with other people not me. For their protection, I will not discuss it. I have never been found guilty of any impropriety with a dispatcher.
You ask of my departure from Hopland Tribal PD. I was terminated. A new Tribal Chief was elected over the one whom I was hired under. My problens began when I opposed him bringing a convicted felon onto the council. His mother didn't like that. She was the Chairperson of the Election Committee (begin to see a conflict of interest?) and told me I didn't need to do a complete background check on the candidate (I have the e-mails). They installed him anyway do to an expungement and passed an expo-facto Constitution change. They got rid of two council people under similar shady circumstances. They tried to file an injunction in Tribal Court. The Judge had stated she would not seek a new contract do to the shenanigans. Her contract was up in November. After the injunction was filed in September, the new council cancelled the Judge's contract early, eliminating any hope of an injunction. They later passed another expo-facto law not allowing their opposition (the two recalled council people)to run for office for ten years. I was directly ordered to conduct a confidential investigation on one of the council people regarding a matter ten plus years ago. It was a Code violation for any council member to discuss the details with anyone else. The penalty was removal from the council. There was a specific section stating the Tribal Chair would be removed if he/she violated the confidentiality. The Tribal Chair violated the Code by discussing it with other(s). I brought this to the attention of the other council members in writing. The Tribal Chair wrote me two e-mails admitting he was the leak, and claimed they were confidential. His mother then removed the ballot boxes from the locked area they were in at the Police Dept. I called for an immediate investigation into the Tribal Chair's mother's actions. I was gone on Sunday. The Tribal Chair accused me of leaking confidential information at the next council meeting. I had, and still have, the e-mails from him refuting his accusations. Isn't this the type of thing you oppose? I stood my ground and paid for it. Further to follow...
 

Question 4- I have never had an alcohol problem. There was a probationary officer who did. He came to work with an odor on his breath as the watch commander I took him home and initiated an internal affairs investigation. He died in a vehicle accident shortly thereafter. Another officer was involved in a Hit/Run accident off duty with suspicions of alcohol being a factor.
Question 5- Nothing happened when I left SRPD. A corporal who was passed over when I was promoted to Sergeant spread a lie that I had to leave Santa Rosa. I was living in Hidden Valley at the time and commuting to Santa Rosa. I met Roger Scuitto, the Chief of Clearlake, and he convinced me to come over. I do not know what this is about.
When I ran against Mitchell in 1994 I came in 5th place, I believe, not 4th. I was the first to enter the race after Sheriff Wright said he was not seeking re-election. He was faced with the same problems and accusations Rod is now. Rod and I were friends at the time. When Rod finally entered the race, and had the DSA's endorsement I attended the forums but did little else. He is an estute candidate and had the support of the powers that be in this county. As I mentioned earlier, some deputies were spreading rumors about me, some of which I still read in this blog. Ann Landers once wrote that not much happens in a small town, but the gossip makes up for it.
Question #6- Sixteen years ago, as I knew him, Rod was a decent person who cared. This election is about the decisions he made, why he did so, and how to fix the department.
Question #7- Of course I will sit down with your group with your anonymity intact. Why don't you have us all at the same time? Either way, I'm game.
There have been other accusations on this blog such as my involvement with a LCSO dispatcher on Psych meds and things like my departure from Wal Mart Security or Domestic Violence? Is a core of citizens wise and intellectual enough to discern fact from fiction or do we meet and see and size up the person face to face. Actions always speak louder then words, but in elections we hear the words have to cast a vote and hope for the action. This is why this level of investigation and questions getting answered is necessary. The Post concerning Rushing is a travesty beyond reproach, to conduct any business with the goal being both Rushing and Mitchell running for election at the same time is a sick and poor joke to play on the citizens of this county. 10:13- The answer is yes, however she was convicted and sent to jail. It was after this that the County Wide Fatal Incident Protocol was composed. It was an investigative procedure developed for any law enforcement officer involved in a fatal incident, on duty or off. I don't know why it wasn't used for Perdock's incident.
10:16- I attend Grace Church in Kelseyville on Live Oak Drive. God is doing great things there through Pastor Garry Zeek. It is your basic Bible believing, come as you are, non-judgemental church. It's mission is to know Christ and make Him known. As you may be aware, churches and other non-profits cannot be involved in politics or they can lose their status. Sunday Services are 09:00am and 10:45am. I sit to the left in the back at first service. Ask for me.

10:13-I need to clarify my answer. There were three incidents. The first one was a CLPD Officer that I took home. He died in a solo vehicle accident. The fatal accident you and 10:25 were asking about involved a LCSO Deputy that was off duty. I did not investigate it. There were allegations of impropriety on the part of CLPD, and how it was handled. There was an outside investigation. That is why the Fatal Incident Protocol was developed. The third incident was a non injury hit/run in Lower Lake.

Sheriff Mitchell makes up the rules as he goes. That's why the Fatal Incident Protocol was not followed in the Dinius case. Sheriff Mitchell had to protect him little boy and best friend Perdock. I remember the Mitchell supporters that helped him become Sheriff. It's funny that they all went to Washington after Rodney won. I think they know that Mitchell had no leadership ability, Couldn't (won't) tell the truth. Many mistakes have been made and covered up under the Mitchell Admin.
 

Maybe Sheriff Mitchell will go to prison like former Orange County Sheriff Mike Corina for crimes committed while he was in Office. Maybe Perdock will turn on Mitchell to save his own skin. If Russell Perdock knows something now is the time to come clean and tell what he knows, or maybe Garzoli will turn on Mitchell.

B. What would you do if a member of your staff is involved in a serious criminal investigation?
C. Would you release the EEOC findings without the names of the deputies?
D. How do you feel about supervisors that shop and order deputies to make complaints against others and staff.

I would like to know.
 

The incident Mr. McCarthy is speaking about was horrific. It involved two teenage kids and a off duty drunk officer. One of the boys was killed and the other survived and will never be the same. The mother of the boy that was killed, told her story to the original protestors of the Dinius Case. James was there and heard it along with several others. And post 10:13 and 10:25 are right. This happened well over 20+ years within the CLPD and yes another cover up. So, Mr McCarthy, please tell us what Fatal Incident Protocol was developed after this case! G

Cops wives and kids do get tickets. I myself cited several, but remember one of a deputy's primary duties is not traffic. That is because the primary duty of traffic enforcement in unincorporated area's is the CHP. That changes only for two reasons. (1) the city contracts out law enforcement services to the Sheriff (2) a request has been made by a city, state or other government to enforce traffic violations. None of this exists in Lake County.

That doesn't mean a deputy can not enforce a traffic violation, it just means it is not one of his primary duties. Deputies due enforce traffic violation if they happen to come across one or when conducting proactive enforcement to find wanted persons, drug runners or other criminals.

The 2 retired people running for sheriff Baxter and Mc Carthy have already lost my vote. They both waited for Rivero to take the heat from everyone and then when the dust settles they come out and announce they want to run. You both should have stepped up to the plate a lot sooner. Mc carthy has had way too many job changes for me, he has either quit or was fired and became disabled. Mr Baxter does not appear to really be for us the citizens, he said he would not have a citizens review board. We need that after watching our tax money go to corruption and law suits.

this is the Lovelace group, we have contemplated for quite a while the answers given by Mr. McCarthy, we do not need to review each of the answers, but will give a general overview and a bit of advice if you will. In almost every reply there appears to be this caveat of reasons as to why these reports happened or some of the incidents appear to be untoward. "They started rumours" "the chiefs wife was mad" "things were said about me" in almost every answert is this moniker, of vicious rumours etc....However this number of incidents usually does not happen to an individual over and over..At least that is going to be the perception. It is better if a person were to say I put my self in a bad position and the results were due to errors on my part and poor judgement, I have learned from those experiences. It cannot always be someone and something else as the cause of a consistent occurance of these type of things. We are not sure if this is the time or the conditions for which you should place yourself in this race. It at this point may be to big a hill to climb, there is some advice that would be your only chance of being a player in this event. A total all out attack on Mitchell and Hopkins a moral stand and a ethical statement that says this.."I am Marty Mccarthy, I am running for sheriff, but my statement is this.."Mr. Mitchell it is time for you to step down", this race and election should not be between you and anyone else, it should be between new progressive and forward thinking people, and Mr. Mitchell is not one of them." You go to church Mr. M. then the answer is in your heart, you read the letter from the fine young man who posted to us from a tour of duty in Iraq, asking what has happened to his county he loved. You ask your Christ what you should say and do. The answer is clear, the only true chance you have is starting out with a clear statement. If you speak from the confusion of your mind, you will not do it. Right is right McCarthy, we all know what that is deep inside. Throw the excuses, stop playing the game the way others play it. Step up and make a strong statement, then proceed with your campaign if you choose to, but if you carry on a campaign like the rest do, you will come in 3rd or 4th and will have accomplished nothing. Minimally you should use this opportunity as a bully pullpit to speak the truth, the opportunity to speak out aganist the corruption and the terrible hurt that has been put on the citizens of this county.

Rivero did the right thing and he should be commended. He went up against the status quo and that is NEVER easy, but I am grateful that he did. Too many people turned a blind eye for so long about the injustices done by the LCSO and it became a huge problem. If more like Rivero came forward before it was normalized we wouldn't have the problems we have today. Mitchell needs to go. Mitchell should be behind bars for what he has done.

Rivero's was racial comments made in the department and that was proven to have happened. Rivero's comment was "This is just a bunch of good old boys run a mock." The EEOC most likely points out that racial incidents do happen inside LCSO. This is the only reason Mitchell will not release the findings.

Gregore already admitted to making racial jokes at Rivero and Hall has made them to Morshed. If you believe I'm wrong than simply do only "one" thing.

Well lets look at that, there is NO MINORITY in management. The last two that applied, Morshed and Rivero were rated last, but Kenner, who was just kicked out of detectives for poor performance, was promoted. I remember a sergeant's meeting where Hall and Macedo made fun of Morshed's racial background (remember the oil wells?). Don't bullshit someone who has been with LCSO most likely longer than you.

It has been stated several times on this blog that Rivero and Morshed scored higher than the others that were promoted. Here's the travisty... The Sheriff can choose anyone on the list, in no particular order! Isnt that a conveniet "Loop Hole".

Why in the hell are we the tax payers paying for Sergeant meeting with Racial Jokes. Mitchell lets his boys do things like this during meeting without any kind of punishment !!! Most LE Departments would have had someone head for racial jokes, etc,. One more law suit that we the tax payers will be paying for thanks to Mitchell. Why hasn't Garzoli and Perdock been FIRED !!! As for Farrington's ex and the vehicular manslaughter: He did not have anything to do with the outcome of the case. What it came down to was rich white lady kills poor latino man; rich lady hires the best attny. and ends up with a conviction but minimal jail time. She was not able to be tested by LE because of the length of time between the accident and their contact with her as the body was not discovered until the next morning.
 

There’s no denying Mr. Baxter’s résumé is impressive. Frank, there's no denying that you opened the door for this election. You have paved the way and you've been slammed and rammed from all directions but regardless of how I elect to cast vote I will alway have respect for you.

Apparently you didn't listen to the radio debate. If you did, you would find that Rivero was rated number 3 and than for unknown reasons (except to Mitchell), Rivero was moved down. The first time Rivero was taken off the list by HR, but no reason was given.

Than Kenner was promoted AFTER being kicked out of detectives for poor performance.

If you look at the email from Mitchell announcing the promotions, you will noticed he states he reserves the right to pick anywhere on the list. As he has done so in the past.

To the post we just deleted, we are not here for you to whine at Lovelace, we have said that over and over, the posts concerning Baxter if you read it, were advice to him on what he can expect, Lovelace does not care if he is 106. "Anyone but Mitchell", for an LCSO employee you don't know squat. Rivero scored 3 on the first test. Not taken off of the list. Moved from 2 to 3. The second test he scored near the bottom. There were 9 people taking the test and he was not in the top 5. Everyone else at the department seems to know this but you. Go to personnel and try to find out. If Rivero said he scored 3 and was moved down to 8 or 9, he's lying.
 

The Sheriff picks from the top five and they are given to him in order by HR.
 

Why is it in the entire LCSO, there are no minorities in command except Esburg.
Why is it that Esburg can't handle running the jail, but can supervise deputies.
Why is it that there are several Hispanic's, females and a Cuban, but none in management.
Why is it that Mitchell had the opportunity to put a qualified minority in management, but instead picked a poor performance deputy for sergeant and promoted a sergeant to lieutenant (who is now a captain) when had never supervised deputies.

Mitchell temporarily promoted Rivero to sergeant and even commented in writing that he was a good deputy. I guess since Rivero is not a poor performer or a white male he can't be promoted.

7:02 Who sets the standards? The way I see it all advancement should be based on merit, not the buddy system. There will come a day and hopefully in my lifetime that we feel safe and secure, have respect for our public officials, our elected officials remember who pays their salary and there is justice for all and no more BS in Lake County. I remember three different sergeant's tests where more that 5 qualified persons passed. All were eventually promoted, even McPherson.

You have to be able to understand this difference. In fact we have communicated with Mr. Baxter offline several times, and will continue to do so. Most of us have admiration for our parents and grandparents because of their wisdom acquired by their exposure to real life experiences. Age can be a benefit so those of you who think Mr. Baxter’s age is a negative allow yourself to consider the wisdom and experience under his belt. If elected he may only seek one term but I believe one term is enough to set the ball in motion and get our county back on the right track. Then someone who accepts the direction he sets in motion can run with the ball.

Rivero may have been taken off of the first list, of 3, but he did not score in the top 3 in the second test. Yes, Rivero could eventually get promoted, after the others up front are looked at. Lastly, I guess when the minorities, as you put it, score high enough on a test or are eventually reached on the list, they will be promoted. Promote by merit, you have to score high enough first.

I too have an extreme interest in the outcome of the race for Sheriff. I want a sheriff who is professional, accountable, and while I can't say above reproach (who is?) I certainly want someone with a track record of good management, good decisions, good judgment. A lack of significant baggage might help, as well. Who among the current candidates meets this criteria? As the teacher in Ferris Buehler asked, "Anyone? Anyone?" So while a crowded field is difficult, a variety of choice is still desirable. There's a couple weeks left for anyone to file. Who else, if any, come step forward to say he (or she) is the right person for the most important law enforcement job in our county?
 

Rivero said he would leave the SO ONLY if Mitchell was to stay in office. He never said he would leave if he was not elected. Quit trying to put words in his mouth.

Given what we have today to choose from my vote will go to Mr. Baxter. I will admit right up front I haven’t spoken with him directly but I did speak with a family member who worked with him in San Jose and he pledged his support and told me I could cast my vote with confidence that Mr. Baxter is the best choice given the current challengers. If you knew my brother-in-law you would know what a huge compliment this is.
